Jessica Baris
Intern
Jessica A. Baris joined CommNexus in February 2008 as a Marketing and Communications Intern. She graduated from UC San Diego with a B.A. degree in Linguistics, and is currently earning a Master of Arts in Rhetoric and Writing at San Diego State University with a specialization in technical and professional writing. A native San Diegan, Jessica endeavors to jumpstart a writing and communications career in her hometown. Jessica's interests include classic American novels, the art of public speaking, and collecting antique keys.

Nancy Ferguson
Bookkeeper
Prior to joining CommNexus San Diego, Nancy served as Controller of an internet-based advertising agency and its associated divisions. She has also managed the accounting department for several start-up companies and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her present role.

Brandon Freeman
Director of Operations
Brandon Freeman is the Director of Operations at CommNexus San Diego where he oversees the development of the organization's new programs & services and leads the management of the website, graphics production, corporate finance, and IT infrastructure. Brandon joined CommNexus from the California Institute of Telecommunications & Information Technology (Calit2) at UC San Diego in 2007 where, as a Project Coordinator, he worked with PI’s at the Institute to assist in managing research projects & innovation centers as well as in directing the production of its special events. Previously Brandon served with the UC San Diego Foundation as President of its Student Foundation. Here he was responsible for overseeing the highly successful growth of its endowment portfolio as well as the creation of a student-focused capital campaign that was integrated into the University’s overall $1B campaign in 2004. Brandon also has had extensive work in event coordination, presenting concerts and performing arts productions for 20,000 person audiences, and coordinating international events featuring foreign heads-of-state and chief executives of Fortune 100 corporations. A UC San Diego alumnus, with a B.S. in Management Science & focus in Electrical Engineering, Brandon’s interests include volleyball, physics theory (HEP), and philanthropy.

Steve Liu
Intern
Steve Liu joined the CommNexus team in the fall of 2008 as a business development intern. Currently Steve is a senior at the University of California San Diego studying economics. He will be graduating June of 2009, after which he plans to pursue a career in business and finance. In his spare time Steve enjoys being involved with his college organization, riding motorcycles, and playing sports.

Peren Lopez
Intern
Peren Lopez joined CommNexus in the Summer of 2008 as a graphic design intern, assisting in design and web development. He is originally from Oakland but currently attends the University of California, San Diego where he is majoring in Media with a Computing Emphasis under the Visual Arts Department. Peren has worked on several freelance projects and also currently holds the position of Senior Graphic Artist at Earthguide, an education outreach organization operating out of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. His passion lies in creativity, and he will strive to follow that passion whether it is at an animation production company or in graphic design. In his spare time, Peren enjoys rock climbing, mountain and road biking, and cooking.

Andrea Parker
Director of Programs & Marketing
Andrea Parker is the Director of Programs and Marketing at CommNexus, where she directs the management of the organization’s various programs and oversees the coordination of its community-wide events as well as leads marketing and promotion efforts. Andrea joined CommNexus in 2007 from the California Institute of Telecommunications & Information Technology (Calit2) at UC San Diego, where she was Jr. Project Manager for an NSF funded Science & Learning Center at the institute. Andrea is a Wisconsin native and moved to California after working for the Office of the Governor of Wisconsin. Andrea has a B.S. degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Janice Pilapil
Intern
Janice Pilapil joined CommNexus in February 2008 as an Intern. She is currently attending the University of California, San Diego. As a third year, she is studying to attain her degree in both Communications and Ethnic Studies. Although a Northern California native, Janice has grown fond of San Diego and wishes to be a part of Southern California's vast marketing and communications industry after graduation. Her interests include figure skating, scrapbooking and attending community events.

Cathy Pucher
Executive Director, EvoNexus
Cathy Pucher serves as Executive Director of EvoNexus, a non-profit incubator for San Diego based start-ups. Cathy is responsible for the set up, fund raising and day-to-day operations of EvoNexus. In addition to her efforts as Executive Director of EvoNexus, Ms.Pucher currently serves as EVP Sales and Business Development and Co-Founder for HuTribe, a San Diego based start up focusing on mobile social management applications. Before joining HuTribe, Ms. Pucher served as EVP Sales and Business Development for PacketVideo responsible for driving revenue growth worldwide, identifying market opportunities with mobile operators and OEMS, and forming strategic relationships globally. Ms. Pucher held senior sales positions for Texas Instruments in the computing and wireless communication segments for 18 years prior to joining PacketVideo. She has worked in the wireless handset communications industry for 14 years. Ms. Pucher earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering at University California, San Diego. She enjoys spending time with her husband, two kids and two dogs.

Satomi Tsukimatsu
Intern
Satomi Tsukimatsu, a recent graduate from University of California, San Diego and a Japanese native, returned to CommNexus in December 2008 as a graphic and web design intern. She received her B.A. In Media with a Computing Emphasis in the Visual Arts Department in September 2008, and currently holds a position as a graphic designer at MarcieSweets, an organic and fair trade chocolate company located in Solana Beach along with the position at CommNexus. In her free time, Satomi enjoys reading, going to live musical events and camping.
