Dmitry Shapiro is the former founder and CEO of Veoh Networks, one of the largest online video services, with over 25 million monthly viewers.Prior to Veoh, Dmitry founded Akonix Systems, a venture-capital backed computer security company that helps corporations secure P2P networks. Akonix’s security software protects over 1 million corporate users. Akonix was purchased in 2008 by Quest Software.Dmitry’s companies have raised over $100 million in capital from backers that include Time Warner, Intel, Adobe, Goldman Sachs, and Michael Eisner (former head of Disney).
Prior to founding Tao in 2006, Mr. Clancy spent 8 years leading Software, Services, and Internet investments at Enterprise Partners, a regional $1B venture capital fund focused in the technology and health care sectors. Tom was responsible for a portfolio of over 25 investments that included: Stamps.com (NSDQ:STMP), Preventsys (NASDAQ:MFE), Netsift (NASDAQ:CSCO), IPIVOT (NASDAQ:INTC), Groceryworks (NYSE:SWY), and Breach Security.During the 90’s, Mr. Clancy was an entrepreneur in systems management (BIM Systems), Internet Directory and Mail (Isocor) and Internet Infrastructure (Expersoft). He began his career in the 80’s at Citigroup, where he managed the development and implementation of one of the earliest Internet technology based banking platforms in North America along with advanced technology initiatives in underwriting, foreign exchange, automated service, and kiosks.Tom received a BS in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1979. He is a board member and past president of the San Diego Venture Group and a board member of the San Diego Software Industry Council.
Scott Juneau is a patent attorney with over 15 years of experience in a variety of capacities including interning with the Honorable Judge Wilson Cowen of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, examining patent applications at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and working in private practice. He is currently one of the in-house attorneys at Qualcomm, Inc. supporting projects in core wireless technologies in addition to projects in emerging technologies.Scott holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (Summa Cum Laude) from Louisiana Technical University, and a J.D. (with Honors) from the George Washington University School of Law in Washington, DC. Scott is a member of the Virginia State Bar, registered in-house counsel of the California State Bar and registered to practice with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Heather Mueller has 16 years of experience in developing and optimizing patent portfolios. She specializes in patent strategy, licensing, drafting patent related agreements, patent analysis (including opinion letters), product clearance, patent searching, patent prosecution and IP due diligence. Currently, her primary technical areas include circuit design, medical devices, software, solar energy systems and toys.Prior to founding The Mueller Law Office, Heather was Associate Chief IP Counsel at Siemens Corporation for 10 years where she handled complex IP issues and managed patent attorneys and staff in the Siemens' West Coast Office. She obtained broad legal experience including leading patent license negotiations, handling due diligences for both acquisitions and venture capital investment, drafting various technology and patent related agreements, and overseeing patent portfolios and patent prosecution. Heather began her legal career at Townsend and Townsend and Crew as a member of the Electrical and Electronics Patent Prosecution Group.Heather holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with a Minor in Management (Cum Laude) from Kettering University in Flint, Michigan, and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Heather is a member of the California State Bar and registered to practice with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Kevin Zimmer, Cooley Godward Kronish
Mr. Zimmer’s practice concentrates on providing counseling regarding intellectual property portfolio development and enforcement. In this capacity, his practice has included strategic patent counseling and procurement, patent licensing, and support of litigation and transactional matters.Mr. Zimmer has drafted and prosecuted hundreds of patents covering a spectrum of technologies including wired and wireless telecommunication devices, semiconductor devices and fabrication, Internet software, network architectures, micro-electromechanical devices, laser devices and systems, and computer architectures.Prior to joining Cooley, Mr. Zimmer served as Legal Counsel to NextWave Telecom Inc, and as the Director of Legal Affairs at the Uniden San Diego Research & Development Center, Inc. In addition, Mr. Zimmer was associated with the Palo Alto office of Flehr, Hohbach, Test, Albritton & Herbert and worked as an electrical engineer for the Hughes Aircraft Corporation, Space & Communications Group.In 2007, Mr. Zimmer was named by his peers and colleagues to the “Top San Diego County Attorneys” list in the category of Intellectual Property Transactional, as published by the San Diego Daily Transcript.Mr. Zimmer received a J.D. in 1991 from the University of Michigan Law School. He earned a B.S. and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cal.
