Unlocking the mysteries of federal seed funding for start-ups

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Technology administers the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program. Through these two competitive programs, innovative start-up businesses can receive critical seed funding in keeping with the federal government's research and development efforts. Eleven federal departments participate in the SBIR program and five departments participate in the STTR program, awarding $2billion annually to small high-tech businesses.

For LIFE SCIENCE entrepreneurs & start-ups:
Mary Zoeller of the von Leibig Center will preset the basics, and John Watson of UCSD will host a panel of experts who have received SBIR awards from NIH and NSF.
