This presentation will address the many interesting topics that surround the infamous "last mile."  As companies, other than incumbent local exchange carriers, wrestle with new technologies and strategic initiatives, the single greatest hurdle remains the last mile.  Some have chosen to bridge the last mile.  In doing so, they have confronted challenges including the high cost of laying fiber optic cabling and obtaining easement rights of access to end user facilities.  Others have chosen to resell existing lines owned by the incumbent carrier.  This presents different yet still challenging issues of its own.  Still, others have opted to pay and use the incumbent carrier's existing physical facilities.  No matter what strategy is implemented the challenges are formidable.

We invite you to hear our guest speakers, Ken Hoefle, Vice President, Cox Business Services, and Pete Wittenberg, Desert Pacific Regional Director, Sprint Global Business Group, address these questions and participate in an open discussion to follow.  For more information or to RSVP, please contact Rick Sterger at carrier@sdtelecom.org.
