PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
The Emerging Wireless SIG is pleased to present Wireless USB and Bluetooth 3.0. With statements coming from the USB-IF that Wireless USB will be entering the consumer market in late 2006, and with the Bluetooth-SIGs announcement just 2 weeks ago that it has adopted the WiMedia ultra-wideband technology for next generation Bluetooth – a lot is happening and many opportunities exist. Come hear about the latest in ultra-wideband radio technology and how it is enabling 480Mbps ubiquitous connectivity for PCs, Consumer Electronics, Mobile Devices and Automotive devices and applications.

Staccato Communications will present technology, regulatory, value propositions and industry updates pertaining to the WiMedia Alliance, Certified Wireless USB by the USB-IF, and the Bluetooth-SIGs next generation high rate Bluetooth. General Atomics will provide a technology overview of its Spectral Keying UWB radio technology and provide an update on their wireless extension of wired USB. Both companies will demonstrate their products; Staccato demonstrating Certified Wireless USB host wire and device wire adapters (HWA/DWA) enabling wireless hard-drives, and GA will  demonstrate wireless USB, enabling seamless wireless connectivity to multiple peripherals at the same time.

PANELISTS:

Roberto Aiello, Ph.D., Founder and CTO - Staccato Communications

Dr. Aiello is a co-founder and CTO at Staccato Communications. He is responsible for making Ultra-Wideband (UWB) a commercial reality. He served as CEO for the first two and a half years. In his role he led fund raising and set the company's business directions. He was previously founder, President and CEO at Fantasma Networks, a UWB product company where he led the fundraising, business planning and operation. Prior to Fantasma, Dr. Aiello had joined Interval Research, Paul Allen's research laboratory, in 1996 to work on advanced wireless technologies where he led the wireless research and built the first documented UWB network. Fantasma Networks was a spinoff of Interval. He previously held senior positions at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) and the National Superconducting Super Collider Laboratory in Texas. He is a recognized leader in the UWB community and is actively involved in regulatory and standards-setting committees. Dr. Aiello has contributed to the spectrum regulations since 1996, and his efforts were instrumental in getting UWB spectrum allocated in the United States. He has currently turned his attention to worldwide regulations. He is a founding member of several standards committees, such as the UWB Working Group, the MultiBand Coalition, the MultiBand OFDM Alliance (MBOA) and now serves as an officer on the WiMedia's Board of Directors. Dr. Aiello holds a Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Trieste. He has served and serves on several advisory boards, such as iPASS. He is the author of more than 20 patents on UWB technology.

Satish Ananthakrishnan, Product Manager, General Atomics

Mr. Ananthakrishnan is Product Manager for General Atomics' Aspen UWB chipset. He has more than 5 years of experience in developing Ultra-wideband (UWB) products. In his role at General Atomics, he has spearheaded development of the Aspen chipset since its conception. Prior to this, he worked at Fantasma Networks, one of the pioneers in UWB technology. He has a Masters in Computer Engineering from Michigan State University. He has one granted and one pending patent in wireless network architecture.
