PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
You are the CEO of Telco, which has what you believe to be valuable innovations. You have been engaged in preliminary discussions with BigTelco. You are near the end of your fiscal quarter and would really like to recognize revenue. In addition, some investors have been looking to put some cash into Telco. A license to BigTelco would really sweeten the pot. It is mid-afternoon on a Friday. You just received an email from a BigTelco contract administrator attaching a PDF of its "standard license agreement" asking that you sign and return ASAP. What next? Ryan M. Sullivan, Ph.D., Chief Economist, Quant Economics, Inc.
Ryan Sullivan is the Chief Economist of Quant Economics, Inc. and is an expert in economics, finance and statistics. Dr. Sullivan applies hisskills in three areas: business consulting, litigation consulting and financial markets. For business, Dr. Sullivan supports companies in the licensing and valuation of intellectual property. His approach thoroughly examines the markets, buisnesses and competitive factors that influence technology value and incorporates these findings into an effectively structured license.
Sam Talpalatsky, Head IP Counsel, Conexant Systems
Mr. Talpalatsky had served 5 years on the Board of the San Diego Intellectual Property Association; he currently chairs the American Corporate Counsel Intellectual Property Special Interest Group in San Diego, and he also a co-chairs the Intellectual Property Special Interest Group for the San Diego Telecom Council. Mr. Talpalatsky is also an adjunct professor at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where he has been teaching Intellectual Property Law and Technology Licensing courses since 1995.
Dave Snyder, VP of Technology Commercialization, Science Applications Int’l Inc.
Mr. Snyder's current work involves identifying, protecting and extracting value from the IP that they develop. Much of the IP is developed in performance of US Gov’t contracts but there are several self-funded programs as well.Snyder also occasionally teaches the researchers about proper procedures to develop and protect SAIC’s IP.
