Constructing Your Internship Program
Build It and They Will Come
High-tech talent is a core competency that creates value and directly impacts organizational results. Finding and retaining new high-tech talent in San Diego has never been a bigger crisis. Undergraduates with degrees in computer science and engineering remain in short supply relative to the demand nationally. There are simply too few with the needed skills to fulfill the demand.
You can create a pipeline of technical talent for the future by investing in an internship program today. CommNexus believes interns are a KEY component in winning the war for talent, as 50% of interns accept full-time positions after graduation.
This HR-SIG will provide you with the “must have” intern program components to attract, retain and compete for technical talent. Our expert panel will address “best practices” for the mentor relationship, introduce the team intern concept, and identify immigration considerations for interns.
Since EE and CSE undergraduate enrollment in San Diego has declined nearly 50% in the last five years, getting high school students interested in engineering will benefit the CommNexus high-tech community. High Tech High works with the industry to expose high school juniors to the high-tech workforce through internships. Stacy Praizer, Director of Academic Internships, and HTH students who have interned at CommNexus member companies will be providing information about the HTH Intern Program at an information table.
Attendees will receive a summary of BEST PRACTICES FOR INTERNSHIPS –WINNING THE WAR ON TALENT.
