For several years now, mobile entertainment has been hyped as the next big thing in telecommunications and consumer electronics.  Early launches of services like Verizon’s Vcast, MobiTV and Apple’s iTunes have given way to a diverse set of new platforms and service models such as Apple’s Video iPod, Qualcomm’s MediaFLO and NextWave’s TDtv and MXtv.  Despite the continued investment by vendors and service providers, these mobile entertainment technologies face significant competition for people’s time, not least from other applications on the device itself.  Where, how (which platforms) and why do people consume mobile entertainment?  What elements need to be in place to offer a seamless and compelling consumer experience?  Apple has shown with its services and products that making technology that is simple for consumers to get what they want by making the complex technology easy and intuitive to use is one of the keys for future entertainment services and devices.  What are the real world barriers to achieving this, and how can they be overcome?  And ultimately, what are the characteristics among current mobile entertainment mediums that set them apart from their competitors and help them to both find and cement their niche in the media landscape?

This session, with panelists from a diverse range of analyst and mobile entertainment companies, will explore the options and the current state of the mobile entertainment market, and will highlight the criteria behind current mobile entertainment successes.
