The Military SIG Presents...

Visit to Fleet Readiness Center Southwest:

Naval Air Station North Island

“The best of everything”
That is what Captain Mike Kelly would tell you about being Commanding Officer of Fleet Readiness Center where he is responsible for the maintenance and repair of F/A-18, E-2 /C-2 Hawkeye, H-53 Sea Stallion.  Why?

First, because he is working with the latest technology for building and reworking the F18 and other aircraft.  FRC can cut an F18 in half and put it back together.  They are doing it and replacing the aircraft centerbox.

Second, he is doing just in time maintenance for $50m F18’s.  This means he is working with the latest processes--Six Sigma, Kaitz, etc.  Using these processes and information tools he can maintain and track any of 200 airplanes in rework at any one time and have each of them ready on the promised date.  FRC’s next task will be to turn F18's designed for 6000 hour life into 10,000 hour life airplanes

This is a unique opportunity for attendees to get an insiders view of these technologies, processes and people working the latest high performance aircraft.  You will tour the facility see work in progress.  And if that does not whet your appetite enough, consider that Mike Kelly heads a $600M company that employs 5000 people (3500 of them onsite at North Island).  You will see Mike’s stand up War Room (his Quarterdeck) where daily decision making is done.  You will also get to talk with Bill Reschke, Plant Manager, who will claim that his job is more exciting and hands on than Captain Kelly’s.
