Derek Richmond

Mr. Richmond’s practice areas include patent litigation, interferences, and prosecution. He is experienced in writing infringement and validity opinions, counseling clients and negotiating licenses. Mr. Richmond is also experienced in the field of thermodynamics and equipment design for industrial uses.  Mr. Richmond received a J.D. degree in 2000 from the National Law Center of The George Washington University. In 1997, Mr. Richmond received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Thermal Fluid Systems Design from Lawrence Technological University.  Various professional engineering societies, universities and professional societies have continuously sought out Mr. Richmond’s expertise. He regularly lectures on the value of intellectual property to entrepreneurs and academics. He participates in various round table discussions concerning the state and development of intellectual property law.  Mr. Richmond is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Bar Association. He is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is also admitted to practice before the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the Courts of Appeals for the Federal and Fourth Circuits.

Julie Cromer Young

Professor Young teaches in the areas of civil procedure and intellectual property, including copyright and food and drug law.  Her scholarship has focused on areas of civil procedure and copyright, including comparative pleading standards and the tension between copyright and public use.  Currently, she is researching whether public interest trumps private rights for memorials such as the Mount Soledad Cross.  Prior to joining the Thomas Jefferson School of Law faculty in 2003, Professor Young practiced in various areas of intellectual property in Chicago, Illinois.  Although her expertise was foreign and domestic trademark litigation, prosecution, and portfolio management, she also regularly handled issues of copyright litigation, licensing, and prosecution.  She is a member of the bars of California and Illinois.  Professor Young received a J.D. degree in 1996 from Harvard Law School and her B.A. summa cum laude in 1993 from the University of Alabama, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
