Successful App to Market Strategies
What are the ingredients of a successful wireless application? This joint LBS & Mobile Carrier SIG event will present a roundtable discussion on what works and what doesn’t in the world of Apps. Erich Hasselmann of Sprint will moderate an expert panel comprised of a carrier branded solution, app store solutions, a billion dollar company and a garage startup. We will examine which strategies, markets, and sales channels have been effective and which have not. iPhone, Android, embedded mobile applications --- what challenges did they face and how can you avoid them. Our panelists will pull out their crystal balls and provide their views on where the market is going and how they plan to exploit it.

Tracy Rees is a wireless industry veteran with more than 28 years in the computing and wireless device industry. Intrinsyc provides software and services to enable compelling mobile devices using the leading mobile OS platforms including Android, Apple, Blackberry, Linux, Symbian, Windows CE and Windows Phone. Intrinsyc develops and sells Destinator, a feature rich navigation application with superior integration for leading smartphones, including those from OEMs like Motorola, Samsung, and LG Electronics. CTO, Pacific Data Vision
Frank Creede, is an investor and CTO of Pacific DataVision, Inc. where he leads the company’s development of Push to X wireless applications. Frank is a member of the San Diego Tech Coast Angels and an active angel investor in Southern California emerging high tech companies for 7 years. Frank was formerly the Chairman, President, & CEO of Logic Innovations, Inc., a division of U.K. based Xyratex Ltd. Logic Innovations, which provides data broadcasting products and development services, was founded by Frank in 1986 and acquired by the former division of IBM in 1999. Frank is also a Partner and Founder of Staffing Innovations, LLC, a technical contract outsourcing business headquartered in San Diego. Frank is also a mentor and member of the Chairman’s Roundtable, a non-profit volunteer organization comprised of successful Chief Executive Officers who provide businesses in San Diego County advice on how to manage and grow their businesses through a well-defined mentoring program. CRT members provide this service free of charge to qualified area businesses as a way of giving back to the community. Frank holds a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering from UC Davis and he has completed coursework for the MBA program at San Diego State University.
Head of Mobile Alliances, Intuit
Over 6 million small businesses and 20 million consumers in America rely on Intuit's software for managing their finances, acquiring new customers, taking payments, tracking sales and expenses, and paying employees. Roughly a 1/5 of the nation's GDP passes through Intuit's software in one form or another. Recently Intuit was voted the #1 most trusted software brand by small business owners in America. As more and more users continue upgrading to smart phones, the expectation is on Intuit to deliver mobile applications that extend its cloud based and desktop based software to the mobile phones. Stoyan is in charge of Intuit's relationships with the mobile industry, comprising mobile carriers, device manufacturers, OS providers and mobile app stores. He has been an active member of the wireless industry since 1999. Stoyan founded 2 start-ups, one of them in Germany, served on the advisory board of several other start-ups, and can still be caught writing mobile apps in his local Starbucks in San Francisco.
Director, Business Development, Shorthand Mobile
Craig leads business development for Shorthand Mobile, primarily focusing on user acquisition, content acquisition, monetization and channel partnerships. Prior to Shorthand, Craig served as Senior Consultant with BearingPoint. During his 6 years with Bearing Point, Craig was the engagement lead on business, finance and project management projects. Craig created a new venture business case combining consumer photography, entertainment and the Internet while with Hewlett-Packard’s New Business Development group. He has also served as a Business Development and marketing consultant to technology ventures in Southern California. Craig came to Shorthand Mobile after completing his MBA with the inaugural class of UCSD’s Rady School of Management. He also received his B.S. with Distinction from UCSD.
Client Executive, Sprint Nextel
In his role as Client Executive, Erich manages the strategic relationship between Sprint and the Walt Disney Company where he is actively involved in new media and new technology ventures. He is also instrumental in bringing outside partners that provide exciting new solutions to enhance both companies’ business success. Prior to joining Sprint, Erich held positions as President of Cantina Apparel and Western Region Director for Hasstech, Inc., a Dover Resources subsidiary. Erich is a co-chair for the Carrier/Mobile SIG and sits on the Oversight Committee of EvoNexus, the non-profit business incubator affiliated with CommNexus. He holds a Master of Arts in International Business from the Elliot School of The George Washington University as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego.
