When and How to Implement Reimbursement into Your Business
In this event, the panel will explore various issues with reimbursement that arise with the convergence of health care and wireless technologies. The panel will also explore whether and how to incorporate reimbursement into your business model and if so some high level strategy for obtaining a reimbursement code, some of the background and history related to the code system, places where challenges in obtaining a code exist, and provide insight into the successful completion of the process and some of the highs and lows involved.

Jorge Valdes

Jorge Valdes was promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations in July 2007. Mr. Valdes is responsible for overseeing DexCom’s manufacturing, engineering, and information technology departments. Mr. Valdes previously served as DexCom’s Vice President of Engineering since November 2005. From July 1999 to March 2005, Mr. Valdes served as Vice President of Engineering at Advanced Fibre Communications, or AFC, a provider of broadband access solutions. Mr. Valdes also served as General Manager for the fiber to the premise (FTTP) business unit of AFC beginning in May 2004. From May 1985 until July 1999, Mr. Valdes held positions at Racal-Datacom, Inc., a manufacturer of data communication products, in engineering management, product development and product management. Mr. Valdes received his BS and an MBA from the University of Miami, Florida.
Robert C. McDonald MD, MBA
President, Aledo Consulting Inc.
Dr. McDonald is founder and president of Aledo Consulting, a consultancy formed in 2004 to assist companies commercializing novel health care products and services. Prior to founding Aledo Consulting, Dr. McDonald held a variety of senior positions within the headquarters and in several operating units at Anthem, Inc (now Wellpoint, Inc., the largest health plan in the United States). He served as Corporate Medical Director of Medical Policy, oversaw the Medical Policy Department that created the company’s coverage and reimbursement policies and participated in collaborative Blue Cross and Blue Shield national medical policy committees. Concurrently, he served as Medical Director of Anthem Prescription and chaired the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. He provided medical and reimbursement support to the staff which managed Anthem venture capital investments. Prior to Anthem, Dr. McDonald served as a Health Economics Research Physician at Eli Lilly and Company, where he developed and managed studies for documenting the economic value of Lilly products, served on the Global pricing committee, and developed global health economics strategy for the first biotech product for sepsis, Centoxin. Dr. McDonald is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business, receiving a Masters Degree in Business Administration with a focus in Health Care Management. He is a pulmonologist and internist trained at Washington University and Parkland Memorial Hospital. He received his M.D. from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and his B.A. from Cornell University.
Aaron Goldmuntz
Director, Business Development, CardioNet, Inc.
Aaron Goldmuntz is the Director of Business Development for CardioNet, Inc., where he is focused on guiding continued technology innovation and market expansion opportunities. CardioNet, the leading provider of mobile cardiovascular telemetry, became a public company in 2008. Prior to joining CardioNet, Mr. Goldmuntz was a Business Development Manager at Guidant Corporation in Cardiac Rhythm Management where he focused on applications of the Latitude Patient Management system combined with heart failure management. He has worked as a healthcare management consultant, helping improve profitability for acute care institutions. He was also the founder of CollectiveMed.com, an online resource of mobile device software for healthcare professionals. Mr. Goldmuntz received his BA in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado, his MHSA from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and his MBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.

Noel Gillespie is the chair of Procopio's Wireless Health Care and Medical Device Practice Group. Mr. Gillespie regularly assists clients with strategic patent portfolio development and implementation so as to protect their technology and help them achieve their business objectives. This process includes developing claim strategies that create market barriers and protect or create revenue streams, as well as preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign Patent Applications. Mr. Gillespie has extensive experience in dealing with telecommunications companies, including those involved with wireless, wired, and optical communications technology, medical device companies, semiconductor companies and software/Internet companies. For example, Mr. Gillespie has helped clients build portfolios and protect or build market positions in the areas of wireless sensors for health applications, smart grids, semiconductor memories, lab and chip technology and energy efficient data storage. In addition to his extensive legal experience, Mr. Gillespie has also served as Senior Design Engineer and Product Team leader for Sony Digital Telecommunications of America in San Diego, where he was responsible for the comprehensive baseband design for several CDMA handsets that used the latest Qualcomm Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipsets. He received extensive training in CDMA and wireless communication technology and his design responsibilities fell under the areas of microprocessor circuits, audio circuits, power management circuits, and user interfaces such as keypads and LCDs. Prior to this, he was a Design Engineer and Product Team Leader at Cubic Defense Systems in San Diego, where he was responsible for the design and testing of several portable electronic systems. Mr. Gillespie successfully managed a team of engineers in the completion of Cubic’s Manworn Laser Detection System, which was part of the MILES 2000 product line, an optical communication system. Mr. Gillespie’s design responsibilities on the product included the areas of optical communications, ASICs, microprocessor circuits, user interfaces, and power management.
