The Digital Media SIG Presents...

Video Surveillance

Technology at Work Facilitating Security in Private and Public Locations

At a time of heightened security concerns, the field of Video Surveillance is an increasingly important growth market. In the private domain, local companies such as Layer 3 Security Systems, Micropower and Kratos Defense are providing technology and services to enterprises with a goal of enhancing security. In the public domain, Video  Surveillance is more controversial, as the goal of crime reduction is at loggerheads with privacy and cost concerns. For example, the UK has approximately 4 million cameras installed (with up to 1 million in London alone), and US locations such as the Las Vegas Strip and Times Square are densely populated by cameras.

This panel explores the technology, benefits and controversial issues associated with the permeation of Video Surveillance throughout our lives.
