Dr. Carlos Nunez
Chief Medical Officer, CareFusion
Dr. Nunez is the chief medical officer and senior vice president of Medical Affairs for CareFusion. Dr. Nunez is an accomplished physician and well-respected medical executive who brings a unique blend of clinical expertise and business experience to the field of healthcare technology. Dr. Nunez has published and presented extensively on the topics of healthcare informatics, clinical workflow automation, analytics and decision support, cerebral blood flow auto-regulation, ischemia-reperfusion injury and medical history. Dr. Nunez holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine, where he also completed postgraduate training in anesthesiology and fellowships in both critical care medicine and clinical research. Dr. Nunez has an active appointment as adjunct professor of Biomedical Informatics at San Diego State University, where he also serves as associate director of the Biomedical Informatics Research Center. Dr. Nunez is a diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology, and a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the European Society of Anesthesia, the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine and the Health Management Academy.
Kian Saneii is the CEO of Independa nd brings more than 25 years of leadership experience. Prior to Independa, Saneii was GM of Websense Wireless from 2005-2008. From 2001-2005 Saneii held roles as VP Marketing and VP Business Development at Websense, responsible for all aspects of global marketing, strategy, mergers and acquisitions, OEM sales, and business development through new strategic channels. Before joining Websense, Saneii served as Senior Vice President, Worldwide Marketing and Business Development for IMA, Inc and IPNet Solutions, 1997-2001. From 1985 – 1997, Saneii served in management positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories, DIS Research and FileNet Corporation (acquired by IBM). Saneii earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with Honors, from New York University, Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, NYU President’s Award; also a Master of Computer Science from Rutgers University.
David Schuster, CEO of NudgeRx, Inc., is a serial entrepreneur with 18 years of experience in healthcare and technology startups. Most recently he was the founder and Managing Director of Galt Strategy, LLC where he worked as a consultant with providers of concierge healthcare programs and services. In this role he helped doctors and other treatment providers define their business models, launch companies, and establish procedures for controlling expenses. Prior to founding Galt, David was the VP of Corporate Development at Hythiam, Inc. where he was responsible for developing and launching Hythiam’s “Catasys” disease management program, establishing the international operations, and building the company managedmultidisciplinary treatment center. Earlier, David was one of the initial employees at LifeMaster Supportive Selfcare, a pioneering company in disease management. David received his BS in Business Administration from Marquette University.
Dr. Eric Emont
M.D. Continuing Care and Geriatrics, Kaiser Permanente
Dr. Eric Emont is a geriatric and palliative care physician who works with Kaiser Permanente. He got his training at Tufts University, and the University of Rochester. In addition, he spent a year at the City of Hope, where he did an oncology fellowship. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Emont is a member of the American College of Physicians, California Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, California Long Term Care Medicine Organization, and the San Diego County Medical Society. He spends his time working in the clinical setting, both in hospitals, patients' homes, and skilled nursing facilities.
Noel Gillespie is the chair of Procopio's Wireless Health Care and Medical Device Practice Group. Mr. Gillespie regularly assists clients with strategic patent portfolio development and implementation so as to protect their technology and help them achieve their business objectives. This process includes developing claim strategies that create market barriers and protect or create revenue streams, as well as preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign Patent Applications. Mr. Gillespie has extensive experience in dealing with telecommunications companies, including those involved with wireless, wired, and optical communications technology, medical device companies, semiconductor companies and software/Internet companies. For example, Mr. Gillespie has helped clients build portfolios and protect or build market positions in the areas of wireless sensors for health applications, smart grids, semiconductor memories, lab and chip technology and energy efficient data storage. In addition to his extensive legal experience, Mr. Gillespie has also served as Senior Design Engineer and Product Team leader for Sony Digital Telecommunications of America in San Diego, where he was responsible for the comprehensive baseband design for several CDMA handsets that used the latest Qualcomm Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipsets. He received extensive training in CDMA and wireless communication technology and his design responsibilities fell under the areas of microprocessor circuits, audio circuits, power management circuits, and user interfaces such as keypads and LCDs. Prior to this, he was a Design Engineer and Product Team Leader at Cubic Defense Systems in San Diego, where he was responsible for the design and testing of several portable electronic systems. Mr. Gillespie successfully managed a team of engineers in the completion of Cubic’s Manworn Laser Detection System, which was part of the MILES 2000 product line, an optical communication system. Mr. Gillespie’s design responsibilities on the product included the areas of optical communications, ASICs, microprocessor circuits, user interfaces, and power management.
