PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The VoIP SIG is organized to provide insight into the issues around Voice over IP and its deployment in various forms (PBX replacement, Tandem switch replacement, remote access solution, etc.).  In order to address relevant issues surrounding how it can be effectively deployed and the business reasons why anyone would want to deploy it, there will be 3 main interest groups involved:
  • Software and Hardware providers (VP, business development, VP, product development), to provide their prospective on why they are developing VoIP products, and why they think the technology will be deployed.
  • Carriers (VP, business development, VP, technical support), to discuss their views on how they are deploying this technology, how it will affect them, and what they are offering to Enterprises and Businesses.
  • Enterprises and Business Users (VP, telecommunications, VP, data communications, CIO), to discuss their views on why they would or would not use the technology, and give examples of any actual usage.
The SIG will be organized to focus on the special interests of each organization and how VoIP technology will affect their plans and goals.  The first meeting will consist of a short presentation on the goals and objectives of the SIG, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from each of the areas mentioned (technology providers, carrier and enterprise user) to discuss issues and agendas for VoIP deployments.
